These poems are meant to lead you home...

At the Museum of African Poetry, we are guided by three core principles: sustainability, community impact, and capacity development. Our mission is to create inclusive dialogues for open critiques on African poetry through community-art programs and exhibitions, making poetry accessible for all.

We are dedicated to building a resilient archive that preserves the rich narrative of African poetry for future generations. Although digital access to poetry collections allows us to reach a broad audience, we believe in the importance of preserving physical collections.

Our focus is on exhibiting and digitizing rare and contemporary poetry through eco-friendly practices, ensuring the longevity of these cultural narratives.

The museum hosts readings, workshops, and community events that celebrate African poets. We also collaborate with local schools, organizations, and artists to promote literacy, creativity, and cultural exchange, enriching the lives of individuals, strengthening the bonds within our communities, and offering educational programs, mentorship opportunities, and professional development resources to support emerging writers and poets.

While our primary focus is on African poets, we also include translated works from various languages in our archives, reflecting the global reach and diversity of poetic expression.

Poetry is a livin' tissue!

Our community-art programs explore the living archives of African narratives.
